The alpha-n final-state interaction (FSI) in the break-up of deuterons
by alpha-particles of 42 MeV has been investigated in the light of bo
th single-level R-matrix theory and effective-range theory. The possib
le sensitivity on the input parameters to reproduce the line shapes as
well as the absolute cross-section of the FSI peaks is discussed in t
he framework of R-matrix theory. The line shapes predicted by the effe
ctive-range theory are in general acceptable.
