A number of luminescent polymeric Schiff bases were prepared by conden
sation polymerization of luminophoric diamines with aromatic dialdehyd
es in N-methylpyrrolidone. Specific features of the synthetic procedur
e as affected by the nature of the starting reagents were examined. Th
e absolute quantum yield of polymer solution luminescence was measured
, and the glass transition temperatures were calculated for all the po
lymers synthesized. The luminescence efficiency of polymer solutions w
as found to directly correlate with the glass transition temperature o
f the polymers, which may be regarded as a measure of the chain stiffn
ess.
