Abstract
The relationship between the hydrodynamic volume V0 of a polymeric cha in in a quasi-theta-state and the solvent quality was derived on the b asis of experimental data. The quality of the solvent was characterize d in terms of the criterion of exclusion similitude Es. The obtained r elation shows that V0 decreases with increasing solvent quality. An ex pression was derived that related the effective excluded volume of the Kuhn segment V(s) to the parameters V0 and Es, from which the values of V(s) were calculated for PS in solvents of various quality.
