Experimental results are presented for a chromium-doped forsterite las
er using a crystal with a high Cr4+-ion concentration. The results sho
w that an increase of the Cr4+-ion concentration by approximately a fa
ctor of 3 compared to previously reported values does not lead to a si
gnificant degradation of the laser performance. This allows the use of
short laser crystals which is advantageous especially for diode pumpi
ng.
