L. Forlin et M. Celander, INDUCTION OF CYTOCHROME-P450 1A IN TELEOSTS - ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING IN SWEDISH FRESH, BRACKISH AND MARINE WATERS, Aquatic toxicology, 26(1-2), 1993, pp. 41-55
Polyclonal antibodies (PAb anti-perch P450 1A) raised against the cyto
chrome P450 1A (P450 1A) orthologue in perch were used to quantify hep
atic P450 1A in fish species used or proposed to be used in Swedish en
vironmental biomonitoring programs. Protein blots revealed that the PA
b anti-perch P450 1A recognized one major beta-naphthoflavone-inducibl
e microsomal protein band in all studied fish species (feral perch, pi
ke, dab and blenny, and the hatchery-reared rainbow trout and lake tro
ut). All feral fish exhibited elevated P450 1A levels, with the highes
t levels found close to industrial or municipal discharges. The presen
t study confirms earlier findings indicating that immunochemical assay
s can be used to detect the induction of P450 1A in environmental biom
onitoring.
