We studied the dependence of protein kinase C substrate phosphorylatio
n on histone H-1 at the action of alpha-tocopherol as inhibitor at two
concentrations (10(-4) M and 10(-14) M). The dependence was found to
be bell-form both in the presence and absence of alpha-tocopherol. The
positive kinetic cooperativity (Hill coefficient n(H) = 1.9 +/- 0.2)
was observed for the ultralow alpha-tocopherol concentration but not f
or the high one. The affinity of protein kinase C to histone H-1 was t
wo times higher in experiments with 10(-14) M of alpha-tocopherol than
using 10(-4) M.
