The role of protein kinase C (PKC) in receptor-dependent regulation of
Na+/H+ exchanger was investigated in rat thymocytes and Ehrlich ascit
es tumor cells (EATC). It was shown that receptor-dependent activation
of Na+/H+ exchanger as well as induction of plasma membrane Ca2+ perm
eability in thymocyte, are under the PKC control. By contrast, in EATC
the stimulus-induced pH(i) rise is due to PKC/phospholipase C-indepen
dent mechanisms. The contribution of the tyrosine-specific protein kin
ase in the Na+/H+ exchanger activation in EATC is proposed.
