Similar responses to L-glutamate (Glu) were recorded in homologous neu
rons of two pulmonate molluscs, Limnaea stagnalis and Helix pomatia. T
he K+ and Cl- channels have been found responsible for hyperpolarizing
effects of Glu on neurons related to feeding and locomotion. Fast and
slow Na+, Ca2+-channels mediate depolarizing Glu effects on neurosecr
etory cells of the right parietal ganglion (D-group in H. pomatia, and
LYC cells in L. stagnalis). Evidence is presented that these neurosec
retory cells are provided with NMDA-receptors.
