Abstract
Petrolatums from different manufacturers were characterized by viscosi ty measurements, oil number and ratio of low to high mol. wt component s (capillary gas chromatography). Viscosity measurements and oil numbe rs of original materials did not correlate with the viscosity of the p rocessed material in eye ointinents. The ratio of high carbon number c omponents to the low carbon number components was a reliable predictor for the viscosity of the formulation.
