Abstract
A comparison of Turkish and U.S. statistics shows that women in Turkey earn a much larger percentage of physics degrees at all levels than d o women in the United States. The Turkish educational system is struct ured so that female students take the same mathematics and science cou rses at the same level of skill in high school as do male students. Th is common background is followed by much greater success for Turkish w omen university students in all areas of science and engineering.
