The presented work evaluates the cumulation dynamics of 12 elements (M
g, Ca, K. Na. Zn, Fe, Cu, Cd, Pb, Cl, F, S) in leaves of a model woody
plant Betula pendula R o t h. and in the soil of three town settlemen
ts (Bratislava, Nitra, Zilina) in three functional segments of settlem
ent greenery: a town park, a housing estate, a thoroughfare. The highe
st values of the total content of anorganogenes in leaves of birch wer
e found for Ca, K, Cl, F, S along the thoroughfare in Bratislava, for
Mg, Na, Fe, Cu in Nitra, and for Pb, Zn in Zilina. The values reached
above-limit levels of physiological tolerability of woody plants. Simi
lar is the tendency of elements cumulation in soil. Soil reaction of t
he evaluated greenery wholes in surface layers is alkaline and moderat
ely increasing with the depth (7.91 - 8.07 pH). Content of the element
s in leaves and soil were determined on the basis of evaluation of the
growth biorhythm of Betula pendula. No visual symptoms of damage occu
rred al these limits under conditions of the evaluated settlements.
