Sl. Morriss et Ad. Hill, ULTRASONIC-IMAGING AND VELOCIMETRY IN 2-PHASE PIPE-FLOW, Journal of offshore mechanics and Arctic engineering, 115(2), 1993, pp. 108-116
This paper presents the first results of an experimental and theoretic
al investigation of the feasibility of using ultrasonic measurements i
n multiphase pipe flow. Extant downhole flow rate measurement technolo
gy used in the petroleum industry is not adequate in some multiphase f
low regimes, particularly when the well is deviated from vertical. Ult
rasonics offers Doppler velocity and imaging capabilities, both of whi
ch could be of great value in production logging. Some air-water measu
rements, both imaging and velocimetry, are presented, along with a dis
cussion of pulsed Doppler theory.
