The results of psychophysiological investigations show that depressed
patients exhibit a higher level of mucular tension. A frequently or pe
rmanent raised muscular tension could effect a morphological adaption
of muscles (Transformation of FF-fibres to FR-fibres) resulting in a l
ower mean power frequency (MPF) of the EMG spectrum. To verify this as
sumption we studied 22 depressed inpatients and analysed the relation
between the MPF and the score of the ''Beck Depression Inventory'' (BD
I). We found a negative correlation, Different interpretations of this
result are discussed.
