Sh. Gillespie et al., SPECIES OF ALPHA-HEMOLYTIC STREPTOCOCCI POSSESSING A C-POLYSACCHARIDEPHOSPHORYLCHOLINE-CONTAINING ANTIGEN, Infection and immunity, 61(7), 1993, pp. 3076-3077
An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique was used to detect and
quantify C-polysaccharide-like antigen in strains of alpha-hemolytic s
treptococci classified into species by following the latest taxonomic
recommendations. C-polysaccharide-like antigen is found only in Strept
ococcus oralis, S. mitis, and S. pneumoniae, which are genetically clo
sely related.
