Previous studies have identified young hot stars that appear to have b
een formed in the halo of our Galaxy. Here we present preliminary resu
lts of a spectroscopic search for similar objects in the halo of M31.
Radial velocities have been measured for 23 apparently blue objects (s
elected from APM measurements of Schmidt plates) in a magnitude range
B(v) congruent-to 17-21. For one of these targets, AND 0029+413, the r
adial velocity suggests that the object is gravitationally bound to M3
1 and hence that it may be in its halo. However, recent CCD photometry
for this object indicates that it is redder than implied by the origi
nal photographic observations. A number of possible scenarios are pres
ented to explain this object, including one consistent with it being a
young star in the halo of M31.
