Abstract
Field studies were conducted on PCDD/PCDF transfer from contaminated s oils to lettuce, potato plants and hay. Contamination of crops by soil particles proved to be an important source of PCDD/PCDF in plants. Wh en this pathway was excluded, there was little correlation between soi l concentrations and plant concentrations of PCDD/PCDF. PCDD/PCDF conc entrations only increased in unpeeled potato tubers with increasing le vels of soil contamination. In shoots of plants air-plant transfer of PCDD/PCDF by far exceeds soil-plant transfer.
