We report the detection of an unresolved IR source of K' = 17.3 +/- 0.
5 at a position coincident (within 1'') with that of the intense but t
hus far optically-unidentified x-ray source GX340+0. This object is a
''Z source,'' similar in x-ray and radio properties to Sco X-1. If the
K-band luminosities of the two systems are also similar, our observat
ions imply that GX340+0 is 6X more distant than Sco X-1. Although ther
e is some possibility of a chance superposition of an unrelated object
, we believe this IR source is the counterpart of GX340+0.
