Sm. Cooper et A. Passman, THE EFFECT OF INFECTION WITH DERMATOPHILUS-CONGOLENSIS ON LAMB AND SHEEP PELTS, Journal of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists, 77(3), 1993, pp. 75-77
This work has shown that infection of the live animal with the bacteri
um Dermatophilus congolensis causes the pelt defect known as whitespot
which is relatively common in New Zealand pelts. While either drying
or antibiotic treatment were effective in healing the clinical infecti
ons, the pelt defect persisted for at least six weeks after treatment
in a number of cases.
