Abstract
A growth inhibitor which might be involved in light-induced growth inh ibition of bean hypocotyl was isolated from light-grown dwarf bean sho ots (Phaseolus vulgaris cv Morocco) and its structure was determined b y spectral data as R-(-)-3-hydroxy-beta-ionone. It inhibited the growt h of hypocotyls of lettuce seedlings and hypocotyl segments of dwarf b ean seedlings at concentrations greater than 0.03 muM, and its inhibit ory activity was higher than ABA.
