THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE 1ST FOOD IRRADIATOR IN THE USA

In 1990, construction of the United States' first dedicated food irrad iator began shortly after the owner, Vindicator of Florida obtained a building permit. It was obtained after several years of effort to conv ince local governments and reverse negative public opinion seeded by a ctivists. This paper describes the series of important events up to an d including the market launch of the first irradiated food product int o the important U.S. marketplace. A profile of changing media treatmen t and critical actions will be presented.
