Abstract
The results of a series of 220 consecutive laparascopic cholecystectom ies were audited with particular emphasis on safety. Ninety-six percen t of cases were completed successfully. Post-operative complications o ccurred in 17 patients, serious in two. There were no bile duct injuri es and no peri-operative deaths. The results support the contention th at laparoscopic cholecystectomy can equal the excellent safety record of traditional techniques.
