Rc. Decabo et al., THE ONSET OF CELL-PROLIFERATION IS STIMULATED BY ASCORBATE FREE-RADICAL IN ONION ROOT PRIMORDIA, Biology of the cell, 77(2), 1993, pp. 231-233
Ascorbate free radical (AFR) accelerates the quiescency-proliferation
shift in onion root primordia. The acceleration was detected by the in
crease of [H-3]thymidine incorporation and by the anticipated kinetics
of the increase in the labeling index. The shortening of the onset of
cell proliferation is attributted to the role of AFR in the energizat
ion of the plasma membrane.
