The oxidation of ferrocene and diphenylanthracene (DPA) has been studi
ed in aprotic solvents using impedance spectroscopy. Only dichlorometh
ane proved to be suited to reproducible measurements. The impedance da
ta were analyzed graphically and numerically according to the Randles
model of a single electron transfer. The rate constants obtained for t
he oxidation of ferrocene and DPA in dichloromethane were 0.67 cm s-1
and 1.8 cm s-1 respectively. The magnitude of the rate constant of fer
rocene is in good agreement with reported values from cyclic voltammet
ry at ultramicroelectrodes.
