The preparation, X-ray crystal structure, conducting and optical prope
rties of (BEDT-TTF)5VW5O19(H2O)6 are reported. Crystal data: monoclini
c, P2(1)/c, a = 19.77(2)angstrom, b = 11.598(6), c = 41.34(4), beta =
100.90-degrees-(7), V = 9308 angstrom3, z = 4, R = 0.071 for 6746 refl
ections with I greater-than-or-equal-to 3sigma(I). The water molecules
are cheeked by TGA. The organic sublattice forms bidimensional layers
along a over arrow pointing right. Short S ... S contacts (3.40-4.62
angstrom) are observed. Electrical measurements reveal that the title
compound exhibits a metallic behaviour down to 250K where a metal-insu
lator transition occurs.
