Ca. Panetta et al., NEW FUNCTIONALIZED TCNQ AND PERYLENE DERIVATIVES SUITABLE AS PRECURSORS FOR DONOR-SIGMA-ACCEPTOR MATERIALS, Synthetic metals, 56(1), 1993, pp. 2180-2184
The research described herein is part of an interdisciplinary project
concerned with the synthesis of donor-sigma-acceptor materials and the
evaluation of their electrical properties on electrode surfaces. Two
perylene derivatives have been prepared in which the polycyclic electr
on-donor was substituted on the nitrogen atom of the carbamate ester a
nd an electron acceptor moiety was bound through the ester oxygen atom
. The p-nitrophenylethyl and ethoxy-TCNQ 3-perylenyl carbamates were i
solated and purified and identified by their spectral properties. Fluo
rescence lifetime measurements on the latter ester have been determine
d. Also prepared for the first time, was ymethyl-9,9,10,10-tetracyanon
aphthoquinodimethane. This new electron acceptor was characterized in
the normal manner and was then examined by cyclic voltammetry and X-ra
y crystallography. It was a more planar molecule compared with the sam
e derivative of the tricyclic tetracyanoanthraquinodimethane, but stil
l not coplanar.
