M. Eda et al., GENERATION OF LANGMUIR-WAVES FROM WHISTLER WAVES BY THE PLASMA MASER, Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 66(3), 1997, pp. 525-528
Simulations using a two-dimensional electromagnetic and relativistic p
article code show that high-frequency Langmuir waves can be generated
by a plasma maser mechanism from low-frequency whistler waves excited
by electron temperature anisotropy. It is confirmed that the plasma ma
ser mechanism does not require an electron beam component for the gene
ration of high-frequency Langmuir waves. We are forced to reconsider t
he emission mechanism of Langmuir waves observed in space plasmas.
