Abstract
The taxonomic position of seven strains of aquatic bacteria from Lake Baikal was determined based on the analysis of the nucleotide sequence s of 16S rRNA gene fragments. Three strains belonged to the gamma-subc lass of Proteobacteria, one strain, to the beta-subclass, and the othe r three strains were assigned to the genus Bacillus (gram-positive bac teria with a low G+C content).
