Abstract
Isolated rat hearts pump less cardiac output than guinea pig hearts at maximal volume load but develop higher left ventricular systolic pres sure at increased resistance. These results allow us to understand the meaning of underlying peculiarities in the structure and function of cardiomyocytes of these two species.
