A study was conducted to determine if the chlorsulfuron tolerance exis
ting in barley could be improved with the use of in vitro tissue cultu
re. Differential herbicide concentration led to variable culture respo
nse for callus culture. Plants regenerated from callus culture were ev
aluated for chlorsulfuron tolerance in the greenhouse. Regenerants sho
wed improved tolerance when compared to the control or unselected tiss
ue culture-derived lines.
