Dt. Pham et al., SURGICAL POLISHING OF CATARACTA-SECUNDARI A AND ITS COMPLICATIONS, Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde, 202(6), 1993, pp. 507-510
Background: Surgical polishing of cataracta secundaria could be an alt
ernative to YAG-Laser capsular opening for the remaining of an intact
capsule while keeping the complications rate low. Patients and methods
: We reviewed retrospectively findings of 104 operated eyes of 90 pati
ents. The procedures were performed by two experienced surgeons. A gro
up of 6000 cataract operated patients was taken into consideration as
a reference group. Results: The visual acuity increased significantly
during the early period after surgery (0.2 preop to 0.6 postop). In 10
4 operated eyes no capsular rupture or anasthetic complications occure
d. Conclusions: The surgical peeling of opaque posterior capsule due t
o cataracta secundaria is therefore the favourate alternative to YAG-c
apsulotomy in myopic eyes (axial length more than 25 mm) for remaining
an intact posterior capsule.
