The realization of 90-degrees-S-bends in Ti:LiNbO3-waveguides with exc
ess-losses below 2 dB and a bend radius of 5 mm are reported for the f
irst time. The method is based on a simultaneous thickening and asymme
trical broadening of the deposited Ti-stripes in the bends and an addi
tionally indiffusion of MgO at the outer sides of the bent sections.
