G. Bilkei et al., IMPROVING THE RATE OF CONCEPTION WITH APP LICATION OF PG-F2-ALPHA ONE-DAY BEFORE WEANING OF THE SOW, Berliner und Munchener Tierarztliche Wochenschrift, 106(8), 1993, pp. 276-277
The authors investigated the influence of PG F2 alpha on rate of conce
ption in a single large pig production unit. Two groups of sows were s
elected at random before weaning, forming an experimental and a contro
l group. The groups were treated as follows: Group 1 (experimental gro
up) received a single intramuscular dose of 3 mg Alfaprostol one day b
efore weaning. Group 2 (control group) received a single intramuscular
dose of 2 ml physiologic saline intramuscular one day before weaning.
The results are evaluated on the basis of parameter ''retour to estru
s''. The experimental group showed significant less (p < 0,05) sows re
touring to estrus than the control. This evidence suggests that the re
ason of unsatisfactory breeding performance after PG F2 alpha applicat
ion may be the result of other influencing factors.
