From the 11 spots resulting after 2-D TLC of ethanolic extracts of nod
ules, 2 were tentatively identified as daidzein and daidzin by virtue
of their Rf values and nodA-inducing ability. After nodule fractionati
on, bacteroids were found to contain 3.51 nmol daidzein per gFW nodule
(= 66.34 muM), but no daidzin. Peribacteroid space contained 24.82 nm
ol daidzin per g FW nodule (= 314 muM), but no daidzein. The rest of t
he nodule contained 57.30 muM daidzein and 301.09 muM daidzin. The tot
al nodule content of daidzein and daidzin was 18.25 and 102.27 nmol pe
r g FW respectively.
