M. Dalzotto et al., TECHNOLOGICAL TESTING OF CALCIUM-CARBONATE TABLETS FOR USE IN THE TREATMENT OF RENAL OSTEODYSTROPHY, Il Farmaco, 48(7), 1993, pp. 989-1005
Samples of calcium carbonate tablets produced by different manufacture
rs were subjected to various tests in order to evaluate tablet quality
parameters, mostly indicative for calcium availability. Indications a
bout tablet suitability for treatment of renal osteodystrophy in uremi
c patients were also tested. The disintegration test turned out to be
the most useful in evaluating calcium carbonate availability from tabl
ets. Samples from several manufacturers varied in their behaviour to d
isaggregation. The availability of calcium dissolved in gastric fluid
and the extent of phosphorus binding appeared to depend on disintegrat
ion behaviour.
