Abstract
The short-range order structure of ultrafine powder of an amorphous (F e7Ni3)69B31 alloy has been studied by XAFS. The particles with diamete rs approximately 1.7-15.3 nm are prepared by chemical reduction. The f act that the local environments around Fe or Ni are not the same sugge sts that there is chemical short-range order in this material. The mea n distances of near neighbors surrounding an Fe and a Ni atom are shor ter than those in amorphous Fe80B20 ribbon. The XANES spectra also sho w some differences between these two amorphous alloys. These indicate that the interaction between near neighbors is stronger in this amorph ous ultrafine powder than in bulk amorphous material.
