C. Cramer et Im. Smith, A NEW SPECIES OF THE GENUS MAMERSELLIDES-LUNDBLAD, 1937 (ACARI, HYDRACHNIDA) WITH REMARKS ON THE FAMILY ANISITSIELLIDAE, Canadian Entomologist, 125(4), 1993, pp. 769-783
Larvae and adults of Mamersellides costenius sp. nov., from Mexico and
Florida, USA, are described. The resulting new morphological data are
incorporated into revised diagnoses for the genus Mamersellides, the
subfamily Anisitsiellinae, and the family Anisitsiellidae. Preliminary
assessment of character states exhibited by larvae and adults of Mame
rsellides and other genera of Lebertioidea, and by those of genera of
the family Limnesiidae, suggests that a comprehensive cladistic analys
is would provide a phylogenetic basis for extensive revision of the cl
assification of these mites.
