Lanthanide nitrate complexes with N,N'-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)tetraglycol
lic diamide (L) have been prepared in non-aqueous medium. These new co
mplexes with the general formula [Ln(L)(NO3)3] (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd an
d Sm) have been characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity meas
urements and IR spectra. An X-ray crystallographic structural determin
ation of the praseodymium complex shows that the pentadentate organic
ligand wraps around the lanthanide ion which is also bonded to three b
identate nitrate groups, achieving the uncommon undeca-coordination.
