Novel heteroleptic tetraisopropoxoaluminato-yttrium(III) complexes [{C
l2Y {Al(OPri)4}.1.5PriOH}2] (1) and [{Y{Al(OPri)4}2(mu-Cl)(PriOH)}2] (
II), synthesized by the reaction Of YCl3.3PriOH with KAl(OPri)4 in 1:1
and 1:2 molar ratios, gave on prolonged evacuation the unsolvated com
plexes [{Y{Al(OPri)4}(mu-Cl)Cl}2] (Ia) and [{Y{Al(OPri)4}2(mu-Cl)}2] (
IIa), respectively. Derivatives Ia and IIa have been used as precursor
s for the synthesis of interesting hetero-(bi- and tri-)metallic isopr
opoxides of yttrium of the type [L3-xY{Al(OPri)4}x] [x = 1 and 2; L =
OPr(i) and Zr2(OPri)9]. All the new derivatives have been characterize
d by elemental analyses, IR, multinuclear (H-1, C-13, Al-27 and Y-89)
NMR spectral studies and ebullioscopic molecular weight measurements.
