SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF SOME NEW BIPYRIDYL-BASED MULTIDENTATE LIGANDS AND THEIR CU-I COMPLEXES

Four new 2,2'-bipyridyl-based ligands: 6,6'-bis(methylthiomorpholine)- 2,2'-bipyridine (L(1)), hyl-6,6'-bis(methylthiomorpholine)-2,2'-bipyri dine (L(2)), 6,6'-bis(methylpiperidine)-2,2'-bipyridine (L(3)) and 4,4 '-dimethyl-6,6'-bis (methylpiperidine)-2,2'-bipyridine (L(4)), and dim eric Cu-I complexes of the ligands L(1) and L(2) have been synthetized . The X-ray crystal structures of the ligands L(1) and L(2) and the L( 1)-Cu-I complex have been determined. Complexation of these ligands wi th other metals produced mainly compounds having very low solubilities .
