Solid-solid phase transitions in petroleum waxes of different melting
points and n-paraffinic distributions have been investigated by differ
ential scanning calorimetry. The variation in the hardness of these wa
xes with temperature, measured by estimating the needle penetration, h
as been correlated with the phase transition phenomenon. It is found t
hat the solid-solid phase transitions depend on both the range and con
centration of the n-paraffins present in the wax.
