A new technique to overcome the core-hole lifetime broadening in x-ray
absorption spectroscopy is presented. It utilizes a high resolution f
luorescence spectrometer which can be used to analyze the fluorescence
photon energy with better resolution than the natural lifetime width.
Furthermore, the high resolution spectrometer can also be used to sel
ect the final state in the fluorescence process which can offer spin s
electivity even without long range magnetic order in the sample.
