Abstract
The technique of Diffraction-XAFS, or DIFFRAXAFS probes the energy-dep endent intensity variations of a diffraction peak at energies close to an absorption edge of one of the atoms in the phase. yielding electro nic and local atomic information which is analogous to that obtained i n an XAFS experiment. In this paper we demonstrate the ability of powd er DIFFRAXAFS to give site-specific information in the XANES region of Co3O4. We also outline a method for removing the bulk absorbance effe cts from the diffraction data using a simultaneous measurement of tran smittance, and demonstrate the method for a control peak of lithium ca rbonate.
