Ni promoter effect on the structure and the sulfiding state of Mo phas
e in Ni-Mo/Al2O3 catalysts were studied using Temperature Programmed S
ulfiding (TPS) and XAFS. The results for TPS and Mo-K edge EXAFS sugge
st that Ni addition promotes the sulfiding of Mo phase and the growth
of MoS2-like species in the horizontal direction. Ni-K edge XAFS resul
ts for sulfided catalysts show that most of Ni atoms may exist as oxid
ic state.
