The linear polarized Cu L absorption spectra of Bi2Sr2Ca1-xYxCu2O8 (x=
0.0,0.6) single crystals were measured. The polarization dependence is
clearly observed in the Cu 2p3/2 absorption peak. The energy shift be
tween the E//c and E//ab spectra was about 0.5eV for x=0.0 and 0.3eV f
or x=0.6 sample. The angle-dependent X-ray photoemission spectra were
also measured. The origin of the E//c component may be explained by th
e Pseudo-Jahn-Teller distortion of the Cu site.
