A study of seroprevalence of HIV infection was performed in Brazzavill
e among patients hospitalized for shingles in the infectious diseases
departments of the University Hospital Center of Brazzaville and Makel
ekele Hospital Center (1991-1992). HIV 1 antibodies have been detected
in 72,1 % of sera. This result is compared to those of central Africa
authors. The seroprevalence rate was 67,4 % in men and 77,4 % in wome
n. The most frequent localisations in patients infected with HIV 1 wer
e: buttock and thigh (86,6 %, abdominal (84 %) and cervical (81,8 %).
