Abstract
This paper discusses the features of the token bus network, with speci al consideration given to its suitability for use as the communication s backbone for process control applications. Comparisons are given bet ween the token bus network and its chief rivals for use in process con trol, the token ring and the popular Carrier Sense Multiple Access wit h Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) network, commonly implemented as Ether net.
