Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is a large city similar to Tokyo. D
ue to recent rapid economic progress and the increase in the number of
automobiles and other traffic, the city is experiencing chronic traff
ic jams. Accordingly, it has become very difficult to carry out condui
t construction work to install telecommunications facilities under the
main roads in the city. In order to cope with this situation, non-cut
-and-cover ACE MOLE technology (technology to install conduits without
surface excavation) as developed by NTT was introduced to Indonesia.
Currently, construction work applying ACE MOLE technology is being car
ried out at many sites in the city. This paper reports the details beh
ind the application of this technology.
