Mse. Coady et al., CUTANEOUS MALIGNANT PERIPHERAL-NERVE SHEATH TUMOR (MPNST) OF THE HAND- A REVIEW OF CURRENT LITERATURE, Journal of hand surgery. British volume, 18B(4), 1993, pp. 478-481
Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours (MPNST) are spindle cell sar
comas normally situated in the deep soft tissues. Cutaneous MPNST is a
n uncommon variant, usually occurring in the head and neck. When it ar
ises in the upper limb this tumour may pose a considerable diagnostic
and therapeutic problem. We present a case of cutaneous MPNST arising
in the hand. Tumour extension was exclusively perineural along three m
ajor nerve trunks from an interdigital origin. Current knowledge of th
e clinical behaviour of cutaneous MPNST is reviewed.
