Abstract
The influence of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyacrylamide (PAM) on t he electrokinetic potential of TiO2 and polystyrene latex was studied. The presence of the polymeric substances leads to a change in the str ucture of the electric double layer. This in the changes of the zeta p otential and of the isoelectric point. is reflected upon. The kind and the number of the functional groups in the polymer macromolecules inf luence essentialy the above changes. The thickness of the adsorbed lay er (delta(E)) has been determined from the electrokinetic measurements . Its value is smaller than that determined from the viscosity measure ments (delta(H)).
