S. Biallozor et M. Lieder, STUDY ON THE ELECTROCHEMICAL FORMATION OF AL-LI ALLOYS IN GAMMA-BUTYLROLACTONE ELECTROLYTES, Journal of the Electrochemical Society, 140(9), 1993, pp. 2537-2540
The electrochemical formation and properties of aluminum-lithium alloy
s at pure aluminum have been studied in gamma-butyrolactone solutions
with LiCl, LiClO4, LiBF4, and LiAsF6 as electrolytes. Beta-AlLi is for
med under most circumstances. A value of the rate formation of the all
oy from the LiAsF6 solution was 1.5 x 10(-7) g cm-1 s-1. Cycling effic
iency of this alloy electrode with respect to lithium was 70 +/- 5% an
d remained unchanged even after 25 cycles. The alloy formation in the
LiCl, LiClO4, and LiBF4 solutions is followed by its passivation leadi
ng to a significant drop of the cycling efficiency.
